A reflection is when a shape is reflected or flipped in a mirror line. A reflection doesn’t change the size of the shape. After reflection, the point and the reflected point are at the same distance from the mirror line.
Observe the reflection shown below:
Transformation: a) Shape A is reflected in the mirror line to get shape B.
b) Points on shapes A and B are at the same distance from the mirror line.
Solved Examples:
Example 1:
Reflect Shape A along the dashed line to get Shape B.
Solution:
To reflect the said shape, you need to select each vertex (point) and check the distance it has from the mirror line, and then on the opposite side of the mirror line you need to draw the point at the same distance while keeping in mind that the line connecting these two points is perpendicular to the mirror line.
Then simply connect the points accordingly,
Example 2:
Reflect the pattern to complete the shape and then reflect the shape along the x-axis.
Solution:
First we will reflect the pattern like this
Now let's reflect this along the x-axis,
Example 3:
Reflect the shape P along the line.
Solution:
While reflecting on the inclined line, make sure the line connecting the corresponding points is perpendicular to the mirror line.
