What is the Kent Test?

The Kent Test (11+) assesses students for grammar school suitability through multiple-choice evaluations of reasoning, English, and mathematics skills. Passing establishes eligibility but doesn't guarantee placement at specific schools.

When are the results released?

Mid-October, with online applicants receiving email notifications after 4 pm on results day. Paper notifications are sent by post. Check your spam folders if emails seem delayed.

How long is the test?

Approximately 2 hours 15 minutes total: one hour for English and mathematics, one hour for reasoning (verbal, non-verbal, spatial), and 40 minutes for the writing task, with short breaks between sections.

How is scoring calculated?

Raw scores are age-standardised to ensure fairness. Qualifying typically requires a total score of at least 332, with no individual subject below 106-108. This process identifies approximately the top 25% of students academically.

Can results be appealed?

Yes. Headteachers may request reviews with supporting classwork evidence. Formal appeals occur after March school placements and are heard by independent panels. Strong school reports showing consistent high achievement strengthen appeal cases.
