King Edward VI Aston School For Boys 11+ Exam Styles
GL Assessment provides the West Midlands 11 plus test, which comprises two papers, each lasting approximately 60 minutes. At the beginning of each paper, a few minutes are designated for children to receive instructions and complete unmarked practice questions.
Both papers are divided into smaller sections, individually timed, and assess the following:
- English comprehension
- Mathematics
- Verbal reasoning
- Non-verbal reasoning
The test is entirely in a multiple-choice format, with no writing sections. Children will record their answers in a separate answer booklet, which will be electronically marked.
The mathematics and English questions evaluate your child's comprehension of Key Stage 2 national curriculum content, including Year 6 objectives. These questions aim to test their ability to reason and accurately apply their knowledge.
The reasoning questions assess your child's logical thinking and problem-solving skills. Verbal and non-verbal reasoning are typically not part of the school curriculum. These sections aim to measure how well children can identify patterns, establish connections, and manipulate written and visual information.
