GL Assessment administers the test, which consists of two papers lasting approximately 60 minutes each (including instructions and example questions). Each paper is divided into timed sections that assess English Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning, Mathematics, and Non-Verbal/Spatial Reasoning. The test does not include any writing sections; all questions are multiple-choice, and candidates record their answers on a separate answer sheet. The test results are weighted as follows: 50% for English/verbal reasoning, 25% for non-verbal reasoning, and 25% for mathematics. To account for age differences, the scores for each section are standardized, ensuring that younger children are not disadvantaged compared to older children in the same cohort. Familiarization questions demonstrating the question style and answer recording method can be found at the bottom of this page.

Additional details about the test include:

  • There will be a short break between the two test papers, during which children are allowed to have some light refreshments. However, it's important to note that nuts/nut-based products, chewing gum, and fizzy drinks are not permitted.
  • Children should bring their own stationery consisting of two HB pencils, an eraser, and a sharpener. It is required that these items are brought in a clear pencil case or a clear food bag/zip lock bag. Other stationery such as rulers or highlighters are not allowed.
  • The test instructions, example questions, practice questions, and timings will be provided through an audio CD. Before each section begins, candidates will be informed about the allotted time for that section. It is important to follow the instructions and work only on the current section. Candidates cannot go back to previous sections or move on to the next section until instructed to do so. For sections lasting more than five minutes, candidates will be notified when they have five minutes remaining via the audio CD.
  • Watches, timers, stop clocks, or any similar devices are prohibited during the test. However, there will be a clock present in the room.
  • Mobile phones, calculators, smartwatches, tablets, and iPods are strictly prohibited in and around the test rooms. Failure to comply with this rule may result in disqualification.
  • Your child does not need to wear school uniform when attending the test.
  • Parents/Carers are not allowed to wait on-site during the test.
  • The question booklets provide space for children to do any working out, but rough or scrap paper cannot be used. It's important to note that only the separate answer sheets will be marked, not the question booklets. Therefore, your child should be familiar with how to answer the questions on the separate answer sheet.
