Channing School 4+ Exam Styles
The 8 Plus (8+) examination at Channing School comprises the following evaluations:
- English
- Mathematics
The English assessment evaluates your child's comprehension and writing aptitude, encompassing spelling, punctuation, grammar, as well as their reading fluency and oral communication skills.
The Mathematics exam gauges problem-solving capabilities and arithmetic proficiency, including your child's grasp of multiplication tables.

Channing School 11+ Exam Styles
Assessment Style — ATOM Learning's online evaluation for the London Consortium.
Number of Assessments — 1.
Types of Assessments:

Duration of Assessment — 140 minutes (including a 30-minute break), divided as follows:
- 20 minutes for mathematics.
- 10 minutes for non-verbal reasoning.
- 30 minutes for English comprehension and verbal reasoning.
- 30-minute break.
- 15 minutes for problem-solving.
- 25 minutes for the final analysis segment.
- Interviews — Students who demonstrate strong performance in the entrance tests are invited for interviews. Additionally, reports from their current schools are considered.
Additional Exam and Entry Information:
- The 11+ tests are administered in December of Year 6. Students will take the tests at their present schools.
- The examination is entirely conducted online. Each section will have an onscreen timer displaying the remaining time.
- Questions will align with the National Curriculum for Year 5 but will include opportunities for extra challenge within the assessment.
- For the year 2022, new questions have been introduced to evaluate problem-solving and analysis skills.
- The problem-solving section will assess a child's ability to use words and numbers to solve multi-step problems.
- The analysis component requires candidates to utilize information from various provided sources to answer questions. The context of this section may be unfamiliar to all candidates, and any familiarity with the context will not confer an advantage.
- The initial three sections of the exam before the break will adapt based on the student's performance in preceding questions. The last two sections are non-adaptive, with all students receiving the same questions.
- A non-refundable fee of £150 is applicable for taking the 11+ entrance exam for Channing School.
- To allow your child to take the exam, your application must be submitted by November.
