Haberdashers Aske’s Boys’ School 4+ Exam Styles

All applicants are invited to a playgroup session and then some boys are recalled for a further, one-to-one assessment. Boys joining Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School in Year 1 will automatically move to the Elstree campus and join Year 3 in due course.

Haberdashers Aske’s Boys’ School 11+ Exam Styles

Applicants must be 11 years old or younger as of 1 September in the entry year. The initial assessment round consists of a 90-minute specialized computer-based test. This examination covers verbal and non-verbal reasoning, as well as English and math questions. The assessment will be conducted on the school premises. Candidates who excel in the first round are invited for an interview. During the interview, applicants do not need to bring books, projects, or additional work. We kindly request that one or both of the applicant's parents or guardians attend the interview session.

Haberdashers Aske’s Schools’ 13+ Exam Styles

Applicants should be between the ages of 13 and under 14 as of 1 September in the entry year. As part of the admission process, candidates are required to sit for an entrance examination, which will be held at the school campus. The initial round of assessment will involve written papers in English, Mathematics, Science (covering Chemistry, Physics, and Biology), and General Humanities (a paper focused on source material rather than a specific syllabus). Those candidates who perform well in the first round will be invited for an interview.

Haberdashers Aske’s Schools’ 11 Plus Bursaries and Scholarships

HABS Boys offers Scholarships and Bursaries. Scholarships are offered on the basis of academic excellence.

The criteria to select students is based on a few factors:

  • Sustained academic excellence and grade progress proofs from past years
  • Excellent performance in year 6 baseline data tests
  • Student’s conduct not only in the classroom but outside of the classroom
  • Students contribution to the school and the ability to adhere to schools values
  • HABS Boys also offer music scholarships

Students who are eligible for scholarships are also eligible for Bursaries. Bursaries are offered to the child by the school governors.
