Streatham & Clapham High School 11+ Exam Styles
- Entrance-Examination: Owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, SCHS is suspending its traditional entrance-examination arrangements for external 11+ candidates (which comprised of English and Mathematics papers, taken at SCHS in the January ahead of the academic year of admission). Instead, school shall require all external candidates for 11+ admission for September 2024 to sit the ISEB (Independent Schools’ Examination Board) Common Pre-Test.
- ISEB Common Pre-test, is a computer-based test with sections covering Verbal and Non-verbal Reasoning, English and Maths, and it takes two and a half hours to complete (English 25 minutes, mathematics 50 minutes, non-verbal reasoning 32 minutes, verbal reasoning 36 minutes)
- verbal reasoning question styles include common words, antonyms, word combinations, letter transfer, number codes
- non-verbal reasoning question styles include shape analogies, classes like, horizontal codes
- English question styles include reading comprehension, sentence completion, spelling and punctuation
- mathematics content is in line with the National Curriculum; candidates are assessed on National Curriculum topics taught up to the end of Year 5
- In addition to the exam, school shall ask candidates to submit a piece of creative writing, in connected prose, on a choice of topics that school shall release in late November.
- Interviews: School shall not be formally interviewing candidates during this term but school shall be arranging for them to come to SCHS, in line with school Covid risk assessment, for a familiarisation activity and a tour.
