University College School 11+ Exam Style
Our 11+ Entrance Examinations are designed to align with the National Curriculum requirements for the end of Key Stage 2. As a result, the primary evaluation criteria for all 11+ candidates are their performance in the core curriculum subjects of English and Mathematics, both of which are taught daily in schools. We do not require candidates to complete a reasoning paper. It has always been our recommendation that no additional preparation, particularly intensive tutoring, is necessary to sit our Entrance Exams.
The format of our English and Mathematics 11+ Entrance Exams, which are conducted at UCS, is as follows:
English Examination – Duration: one hour and 15 minutes. The allotted time is divided into two sections: Reading Comprehension (45 minutes) and Creative Writing (30 minutes).
Mathematics Examination – Duration: one hour and 15 minutes. This exam consists of three sections: Multiple Choice, Core Mathematics, and Maths Problems. All questions will continue to cover the National Curriculum Mathematics topics.
