Whitgift School 10+ Exam Styles
- Assessment:
- Once an application has been received, a reference is requested from the prospective student’s current Head Teacher. All 10+ applicants will be invited to the School on Saturday 9 December 2023 to sit examinations in Maths and English. Students whose first language is not English, may be required to sit an ‘English as an Additional Language’ (EAL) examination in place of the standard English examination. School will be running a morning and afternoon session on the exam date and will contact you once school receive your application to confirm which session your son should attend.
- Interviews:
- All students who are being considered for an offer will be invited with their parents or guardians to have a 30-minute online interview with a senior member of staff. The interviews take the form of an informal conversation and are an opportunity for school to meet your son and get to know more about his interests and activities beyond his academic ability. The years he spends with school will be some of the most important of his life and so school also make the time to meet with parents. This provides the opportunity for you to tell school more about your son directly and to ask any further questions you may have

Whitgift School 11+ Exam Styles
- Entrance Exams:
The entrance exams include assessments in English, Mathematics, and Critical Thinking Skills, with the latter being age-appropriate. - Interviews:
Students who are under consideration for admission will receive an invitation for an interview with a Senior Member of the school staff. This interview serves as an opportunity for the school to meet the student, further evaluate their academic suitability, and gain insight into their extracurricular interests and activities. Following the student interview, there will be a brief meeting with the student's parents or guardians, also with the same Senior Member of staff. - English as an Additional Language (EAL):
- In cases where English is not the primary language spoken at home, students may be required to take an EAL exam. The decision regarding this requirement will be made in consultation with the Head of EAL. It is important to communicate in English for all correspondence related to the admissions process.

Whitgift School 13+ Pre-Test Exam Styles
- Assessment:
- Once an application has been received, a reference is requested from the prospective student’s current Head Teacher.
- All Pre-Test applicants will be required to sit the ISEB (Independent Schools Examinations Board) Common Pre-Test in the Autumn Term of Year 6 at the students’ current school.
- The ISEB Pre-Test is a series of online tests in:
- Maths (50 minutes)
- English (30 minutes)
- Verbal Reasoning (36 minutes)
- Non Verbal Reasoning (32 minutes)
- Each test is multiple choice with some level of age weighting. The scores are added together and provide the school with a rank order across four papers. The school is provided with a great deal of information enabling school to take in to account variations in boys performance across all four sections
