The assessment process comprises three distinct stages:
- Stage 1: Online CAT4 Test
- The initial phase involves an online Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4). Candidates are required to make arrangements to complete this assessment either at their current school, a recognized testing center in the UK, or at a local British Council Office. This test is scheduled within a ten-day window in November. The Admissions department at Wycombe Abbey will furnish the necessary access codes to facilitate your daughter's participation, and the test results will be automatically transmitted to us.
- Stage 2: Assessment Day
- The second phase entails an Assessment Day, offering your daughter a glimpse into life at Wycombe Abbey while enabling us to evaluate her academic aptitude and suitability for the school environment.
- The Assessment Day takes place at Wycombe Abbey in November preceding the intended year of entry (when your daughter is in Year 6). Please be aware that all candidates must physically attend Wycombe Abbey for this assessment.
- During this day, candidates will undergo individual interviews with staff members and engage in small group activities. Additionally, your daughter will be required to sit entrance examinations in English (lasting 1 hour) and Mathematics (also 1 hour). It's important to note that no specific preparation is needed for these components, and sample questions will be provided in the autumn term. Furthermore, a reference from your daughter's current school will be requested.
- Subsequent to the Assessment Day, firm offers will be extended in December preceding the year of intended entry. These offers will be based on performance in the entrance examinations, interview, and group activities conducted during the Assessment Day.
- To secure a place, all candidates must accept the offer and submit a deposit by early March (exact date to be confirmed).
- Stage 3: Scholarship Examinations
- Following the 11+ Assessment Day, selected candidates who have received firm offers will be invited to participate in the Wycombe Abbey Scholarship Examinations, scheduled for January in the year of proposed entry. These examinations will encompass papers in English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, and a Language Aptitude Test. It's important to note that sample papers for these exams are not available.

To take this test, candidates should make arrangements either at their current school, a recognized testing center in the UK, or at a local British Council Office in early October. The Wycombe Abbey Admissions Department will provide the necessary access codes to facilitate your daughter's participation, and the results will be automatically forwarded to us. Prior to the CAT4 test, we will also request a reference from your daughter's current school.
- The CAT4 scores and the school reference will be carefully assessed by the Headmistress, Deputy Head (Academic), and Director of Admissions. Only selected applicants will be invited to proceed to the second stage of the Assessment.
- Stage 2: Assessment Day – for Selected Candidates
- The second phase entails an Assessment Day specifically designed for selected candidates. This day not only offers your daughter a glimpse into life at Wycombe Abbey but also allows us to evaluate her academic prowess and suitability for our school.
- The Assessment Day is scheduled to take place at Wycombe Abbey in January of the proposed year of entry (when your daughter is in Year 8). During this day, your daughter will engage in an individual interview with a senior staff member and will be required to complete entrance examinations.
