1. What are Cube Numbers?
A cube number is the result when a number has been multiplied by itself twice. The symbol for cubed is ³. A cube number can also be called a number cubed.
For example 2 cubed: 2³ = 2 × 2 × 2 = 8
1.1 How to Cube a Number?
To cube a number all you do is multiply it by itself twice. This works for all numbers.
So for example 9 cubed is 9³ or 9 x 9 x 9 which is 729.
2. List of first 10 Cube Numbers
1³ = 1 × 1 × 1 = 1 |
2³ = 2 × 2 × 2 = 8 |
3³ = 3 × 3 × 3 = 27 |
4³ = 4 × 4 × 4 = 64 |
5³ = 5 × 5 × 5 = 125 |
6³ = 6 × 6 × 6= 216 |
7³ = 7 × 7 × 7 = 343 |
8³ = 8 × 8 × 8 = 512 |
9³ = 9 × 9 × 9 = 729 |
10³ = 10 × 10 × 10 = 1000 |
2.1 Why are they called cube numbers?
The numbers listed in the above table are called cube numbers or numbers cubed because they gives the volume of a cube. As you remember, all the sides of the cube are equal in length and so the volume of the cube is simply calculated by multiplying the side by itself twice which is the side × side × side or (side)³.
For example: for a cube of side 5 cm, its volume is 5 × 5 × 5 or 5³ which is 125 cm³. Also if the volume of a cube is 27 cm³, the side of the cube will be 3 cm as 3³ = 3 × 3 × 3 = 27.
