11+ Exam Year 4

Course Overview

This tutoring course is designed to build further skills in Maths, English and Verbal / Non-Verbal Reasoning for eleven plus exam. It builds upon the work done in Year 3. We introduce children to a variety of exam papers including NFER, GL Assessment and CEM.

National Curriculum Maths Year 4 Syllabus

The Maths syllabus covers core skills which are part of the National Curriculum and the 11 plus exam. The topics we are covering are Numbers, Place Value, methods for Addition, Subtraction, Division, Decimals, Fractions, Times Tables and some word problem-solving skills. Our tutors also work on more challenging topics such as Mental Maths, Measurement, Geometry and Statistics.

We focus on Mental Maths to do basic operations and some word problems to help the child to gain more speed when they enter Year 5. This is essential for the 11 Plus exams ensuring the paper is completed accurately and on time.

National Curriculum English Year 4 Syllabus

The English tutoring course in Year 4 follows the Year 4 National Curriculum English framework, helping children engage with a variety of texts, including fiction & non-fiction stories, poetry, and plays. We also focus on grammar and punctuation techniques to enhance vocabulary, spelling, root words, prefixes, and suffixes. Additionally, we work on listening comprehension, Year 4 reading comprehension of all types, creative writing, writing transcription, writing composition, and word reading. Our course aims to strengthen your child’s linguistic knowledge, spoken language, and listening skills.

Verbal Reasoning

In Verbal Reasoning, we encourage analytical thinking by focusing on synonyms, antonyms, and cloze exercises. We also cover simple mathematical reasoning problems related to age, time, and year while teaching various strategies to help arrive at the correct answer.

Non - Verbal Reasoning

This course teaches simple techniques and strategies to help Year 4 students solve different types of Non Verbal Reasoning questions. It focuses on developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and spatial skills through puzzles and educational resources. Students will practice recognizing patterns, using the process of elimination, series completion, analogies, and finding the odd one out.
