Dont quite agree with the calculation of 17th question . The answer should be 60+30 which is total speed divided by total number of speeds that have been given to us which is 2 hence 60+30 = 90 which then divided by 2 is 45
Hi Payal,
Thank you for your comment.
The solution to the 17th question is correct.
The average speed is calculated as total distance divided by the total time.
The total distance covered is 2 miles.
S = D/T => T = D/S
The time taken for first part of the journey is 1 mile / 60 m.p.h = 1/60 hours
The time taken for second part of the journey is 1 mile / 30 m.p.h = 1/30 hours
So, the total time taken for the journey is 1/60 + 1/30 hours = 1/20 hours
Now, the average speed = total distance / total time
= (2 miles) / ((1/20) hours)
= 40 m.p.h
Hope this helps!
Regards,
Pi Team.
