The Parkstone Grammar School: History and Overview
With a roll of around 1300 girls, Parkstone Grammar School (PGS) is situated on the northern side of Poole and possesses an “Outstanding” Ofsted rating. Since 2003 and 2008 respectively, the school has enjoyed Specialist status in both science and languages, and in 2011 its excellent academic track record was further recognised when it was awarded academy status.
PGS was originally established in 1905 as a co-educational independent school, before being converted into a grammar school by Dorset Council in 1935. One of four surviving grammar schools in Dorset, its most recent Ofsted report praised PGS’ quality of “calm, ambitious” leadership, its enthusiastic teaching staff, its support of disadvantaged children and the positive, impeccable behaviour and attitude of its pupils. Moreover, both the report and the school’s prospectus highlight a balanced, wide-ranging and strong curriculum that enables its students to develop and flourish into well-rounded individuals.
