Finding the right school for your child in Bradford

It can be challenging finding the right high school for your child. Most secondary schools in the UK education system are non-selective state schools, and this also true of most secondary schools in Bradford.
However, if you’re curious about other options, you might have already researched academically selective grammar schools in your area. These schools present families with an alternative to the comprehensive school system- they’re run by the government and free to attend, and due to their selectivity, they usually boast better academic results than their comprehensive counterparts. Yet as there are only 163 grammar schools in England, places are highly coveted, and it can be difficult to guarantee your child will gain entry to one of these institutions.
For this reason, many families consider the independent school system another excellent alternative to the state school sector. While the grammar school system and state schools in England are free, independent schools charge fees. Most independent schools in Bradford also use an exam called the 11 Plus, which helps to ensure prospective pupils have high aptitude and potential. This, in turns, helps schools in the independent sector maintain the level of academic excellence for which they are generally known.
If you are interested in sending your son or daughter to an independent school in Bradford, this article will take a closer look at Bradford Grammar School.

On the same day, pupils will participate in an afternoon of activities led by the Head of Year 7 and the BGS’ Headmaster.

  • 11 Plus-style entry exam papers in Maths and English skills, taking place in January 2024.
  • An informal afternoon program of practical activities is included in the entry exam day, allowing the Head of Year 7 and the Headmaster to interact and engage directly with applicants.

Exam Preparation and Tips to Crack the 11 Plus at Bradford Grammar School

The Bradford Grammar School doesn’t provide official past papers for its entry exam; however, it might be helpful to familiarise your child with some 11 Plus-style question papers. This can help to build confidence and give a better idea of what to expect from the papers on the entry exam day.
